HanWei Practical Weapons

The HanWei "Practical" series are made in China by the HanWei company. Their blades are high-carbon spring steel and their temper has been very good. HanWei has a reputation for changing aspects of their weapons every shipment, so hilts and blades will have slight variations from shipment to shipment.

They style the "Practical" series as "theatrical/re-enactment" grade weapons, though we have used them and classify them as "moderate use/costume" weapons. They do require more maintenance of the edges than our AFS weapons and there are no replacement parts or alterations: the tangs are permanently affixed to the pommels so the weapons cannot be disassembled or tightened by normal means. Their edges are flat, not rounded or sharp.

They are very nice looking, well-balanced weapons, however, and very affordable, with nice wooden scabbards included in the low price. Please note: Please remember that AFS and HanWei exclude abuse and normal wear-and-tear from their warranties. These weapons should be used only for professonally choreographed fights, not for chopping trees or the like. Take care of your weapon and it will take care of you.
